Phishing scams

 

Be on alert.

Phishing scams are common forms of identity theft when criminals try to gain illegal access to your private and personal information by disguising themselves as a legitimate company you may trust – like a financial institution. Here are some red flags you should be aware of.

You don’t recognize the sender’s address.

The sender’s email comes from a domain that looks suspicious because its formatting is unusual or misspelled.

You don’t have a business relationship or any past communication with the sender.

The email is unexpected and unusual with a hyperlink and/or attachment.

You received the email at an unusual time (i.e. 3 a.m.).
