Brian Topp

2022 Board Member Candidate

Brian Topp

I have a dime issued by the Canadian mint commemorating the first deposit in the Mouvement Desjardins. A single dime – a tiny first step – taken to offer a cooperative alternative to predatory banking practices. Practices that outraged Desjardins and prompted him to act. Today’s multi-billion dollar credit unions, like FirstOntario, flourish by remembering that first dime, and the mission and values it represents. I strongly hold to those values, and I’d like to do my part to advance them by joining our credit union’s board team.

What can you specifically contribute to the Board?

  • Having served a decade on the audit and valuation committee of a venture fund, I hope to help address a gap our board is looking to fill.
  • Having served as Vice-President (Government Relations) at Credit Union Central of Canada, I’ve delved deeply into our legislative and regulatory framework – a primary concern in any regulated financial institution.
  • Having worked at the centre of Ontario’s film industry, I’m hoping to help us become the go-to financial institution for film creators – a $2 billion business in this province.
